Support Services
Some folks who need assistance don't know where to turn for a helping hand. If you are one of those persons or families who need them, numerous agencies exist in our area to support our residents. For example, did you know that through a Northwest Michigan Community Action (NMCAA) grant, qualified Crystal Lake Township and Benzie County community residents now have access to funds for home repairs to meet health and safety standards? NMCAA also offers a myriad of other services such as tax preparation, asset building, budgeting, and foreclosure avoidance. And this agency is just one of may resources available in our area. Whether it is a need for food, clothing, baby supplies, GED programs, financial help for utilities, legal services --and so many other areas that they cannot all be named here!-- there is probably a source of assistance. There's another way to approach finding help, as well. Many services provided by our county government -- such as recycling information, marriage licenses, concealed carry permits, and many more-- are listed in the Benzie Government website directory, accessed by clicking here.
Last, but not least, all Crystal Lake Township property owners should be aware of tax exemptions, whereby property taxes are "forgiven" or reduced, if all criteria are met. For example, there are property tax exemptions for veterans, and there is a possibility of a poverty ----sometime know as a "hardship"--- exemption. If you would like to know more about these avenues, it is best to ask the township staff directly. Contact Supervisor Amy Ferris (email [email protected]/(231) 352-9791) or the township assessor, Jill Brown ([email protected]/(231) 881-4000.)
