eMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEer OPPORTUNITIES
- MINIMUM WAGE INCREASES FOR 2026: Michigan’s minimum wage increases to $13.73 per hour, effective Jan. 1, 2026, up from $12.48 per hour. The minimum wage for minors aged 16 and 17 (85% of minimum wage) will also increase from $10.60 to $11.67 per hour; the training wage of $4.25 per hour for newly hired employees under the age of 20 for their first 90 calendar days of employment remains unchanged. The state’s minimum wage is set by Michigan’s Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act, which establishes the annual schedule of increases. The minimum wage will increase to $15 effective Jan. 1, 2027. Beginning in October 2027, the state treasurer will calculate an adjust minimum wage rate, which must increase by the rate of inflation. For further information regarding Michigan’s minimum wage and overtime laws, including FAQs and the required employer poster, visit Michigan.gov/minimumwage.

- VOLUNTEER & CIVIL INVOLVEMENT-MINDED WORKERS NEEDED:
- Cemetery Committee is in need of several different kinds of help. Are you interested in the historical aspects of our two graveyards? We are looking for someone to work on a historical compendium documenting some of the more interesting gravesites. Are you a photographer? We need to update the file of gravestone photographs. Last but not least, just want to be involved with the cemeteries? If you have family or friends buried in either North or East Cemetery, we need more volunteers on the Cemetery Committee, especially representing East Cemetery. We would like individuals to adopt sections of either cemetery to recommend improvements to the board for their assigned area. Contact Supervisor Amy Ferris.
- Budget & Finance** is a proposed subcommittee that has not taken shape but is needed. Pending approval of the board, this committee would serve as another layer to our government's system of checks-and-balances and could help to steer the township's formation of budgets, financial reporting, review and more. Details as to the scope of the work would need to be defined. If you're interested, contact Supervisor Amy Ferris.

ALSO NOTE: If positions on these or other positions/committees/commissions are already filled, we would still like to know of your possible interest, regardless. For those areas of service already filled, we would keep your name on file as a possible appointee should an opening appear. For all others, we have vacancies and encourage you to make your contribution to your local government. Note that your willingness to serve doesn’t necessarily guarantee your appointment, but all applications will be considered. Questions about the amount of knowledge, time and/or energy needed to making a commitment? Contact Amy Ferris, Township Supervisor, at (231) 352-9791 or [email protected].
