CLEAN-UP DAYS & GARBAGE DISPOSAL

PictureWant to Follow the lead of our deputy clerk or treasurer and volunteer? We can always use a couple of community workers to staff and assist with traffic and general supervison. Call Brian the township #352-9791.
TOWNSHIP-SPONSORED CLEAN UP DAYS:   CLICK HERE FOR BROCHURE

      LOCATION: GRACELAND FRUIT, FRANKFORT

     DATE REMAINING FOR 2025:
Sat August 2nd, 2025

TIME: 8 AM - 11 AM . . . (or until the trucks are full)

[Wondering about the County-sponsored dates for the 2025 Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection?  Events will be on Saturday, June 21st, and Saturday August 23rd.  The locations of the events will most likely be the Frankfort Highschool (June 21) and the Honor Road Commission (August 23).]

Two days a summer are sponsored by the township, with tax payer dollars, offering  "free" days in which
to rid your household of junk, oversized and awkward things, all the stuff one wouldn't normally be able to dispose
of through regular weekly trash pick up.  This year the event will be serviced by American Waste and the collection site is new: at the Graceland parking lot at the corner of M-22 and Lake Street.  A diagram will be posted shortly
that will show the plan for lining up cars, plus township personnel will be there to assist with traffic control.

• NOT ACCEPTABLE: No tires, TV’s, computers, hazardous bio- or medical waste, paint, thinner, oil, other unknown liquids, batteries, bulbs & other hazardous waste, concrete or yard waste.   Only minimal do-it-yourselfer construction waste; no contractors or commercial building dumping.
• NO GUARANTEES: When the trucks are full, service will be discontinued even if it is before 11am.  Monitors reserve the right to refuse any material deemed unsuitable for disposal.

PictureIn 2022, Northern Disposal helped the Benzie Conservation District pull old tires out of Betsie Bay and dispose of them, along with the Benzie County Office of Recycling and Solid Waste.
  GARAGE DISPOSAL, OTHERWISE:
  • Are you looking to recycle instead of throwing your items away?  Click here for our Recycling Page.
  • There are two commercial waste haulers for disposal of household garbage.  The township does not provide trash pickup.  Arrangements must be made directly between these companies and the resident: GFL (formerly American Waste) OR Republic Services.
  • Can't wait for the two summer township-sponsored Clean Up Days? There's many a private company in the northern Michigan area to haul away your stuff.  Here is an "any time" local alternative or two:
             1) Northern Disposal is a private company located at 7050 Industrial Park Drive In Thompsonville,
                 and
accepts everything from household waste to construction materials while sorting for optimal                   recycling of whatever is possible so less goes into our landfills.   For more details, click here.
                 Checkout this company by
contacting it via 231-342-6036  or [email protected].
            2)
In TC there's one that advertises to help residents solve the problem of junk and clutter. They
say they will take just about anything, break it down, and
 haul it away. Appliances, Debris,
                  Junk, Trash.
They service Grand Traverse and surrounding counties and offer free estimates.
                  Try googling JunkTitan.com or calling
(231) 357-6087.
  • Our nearest landfills are Glen's to the north on M-72 and Republic Services Landfill on to south on Camp Road in Manistee County.
